Brandon, Manitoba - 7 July 2014
Well, everybody, I’m obviously here joined by Premier Selinger, by our local Member of Parliament, Larry Maguire, my colleague, Shelly Glover, federal Minister for Manitoba, MP Bob Sopuck, by the Mayor, and of course all of these emergency workers.
You know, obviously we are here to express our solidarity with people, as I know everybody is very concerned about the situation in Manitoba and Saskatchewan.
Many have been affected.
I am told the worst effects are in a place called Pierson…I guess it’s a little bit west of here?
Southwest of here.
Look, I’ve been talking with Premier Selinger, also Premier Wall, the last week about the developments and obviously there are still challenges, but I just want to assure everybody that the emergency workers and all levels of government are working together very hard to respond and prepare.
Also our military, who are assisting particularly with the situation in Portage-la-Prairie where we expect the greatest challenges.
I want to thank all the emergency workers, and the military, here and in both provinces who have been doing good work, and to assure everybody that all governments will work together and there will be disaster assistance in this case as there always is according to federal law.
So I appreciate, Premier, that you’ve been keeping us, myself and all of our people informed and look, we’ll keep on top of this until like we get the crest and get through it all.
