On behalf of the Government of Canada, I congratulate Kirsten Sweetland on winning Canada’s first medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games today, in Glasgow, Scotland.
Kirsten, from Victoria, British Columbia, achieved her silver medal podium finish in the Triathlon.
Along with all Canadians, I am extremely proud of Kirsten’s outstanding performance. She has given our Canadian team a fantastic start to the Games and has set the stage for more Canadian medals as we enter day one of competition.
I am thrilled to be present in Glasgow to cheer on our Canadian athletes as they compete against the best athletes from the 71 nations and territories of the Commonwealth.
Canada is a top sport nation, and each of our athlete’s performances is a true reflection of our country’s amazing athletic talent and national pride.
It is a great honour for me to congratulate Kirsten on her achievements. Best wishes to all Canadian athletes for much success at these Games.
