Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued the following statement on the opening of the 2014 Calgary Stampede which is taking place from July 4 to 13, 2014:
“Each year Calgary hosts the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth, an internationally recognized celebration of Western culture and heritage.
“With its world class rodeo and events that celebrate both cowboy and Aboriginal culture, the Stampede reminds us of our proud past.
“Since 1912, the Stampede has showcased the finest that Canada has to offer, including hospitality, integrity, pride, commitment to community, and of course musical talent and entertainment.
“I wish the city of Calgary and the organizers of this year’s Stampede every success as they welcome Canada and the rest of the world to this premiere event.
“I look forward to participating again this year.”
