Work is now underway in London to replace the 55-year-old Westminster Drive Bridge, renewing the Highway 401 corridor, while supporting future growth.
Designed to be longer and wider than its predecessor, the new structure will allow for future widening of Highway 401 to eight lanes.
Employing an innovative approach to bridge replacement, components of the new Westminster Drive Bridge were prefabricated off-site last winter and are to be assembled locally, now that the old bridge has been removed. This accelerated bridge construction technique reduces the time needed for on-site construction, reduces traffic disruptions, and enhances safety.
