On August 1, 2014, Darren John Stefaniczan, an inmate at Pacific Institution, died at Abbotsford Regional Hospital.
At the time of his death, Mr. Stefaniczan, 53 years old, had been serving a sentence of 33 years and eight months for possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, utter threats to cause death/harm, assault with a weapon, robbery – all others (X6), disguise with intent (X3), possession of a weapon or imitation (X2), robbery (X16), attempt indictable offense (X2), escape lawful custody, unlawfully at large (X2), possession of property obtained by crime, and mischief private property.
The inmate’s next of kin have been notified of his death.
As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the police and the coroner have been notified, and the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances of the incident.
