Funding for this project is a component of the Strategic Partnerships Initiative (SPI) known as the True North Treasure Initiative
August 14, 2014 – Gatineau, Quebec – Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada
The Honourable Bernard Valcourt, Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development, is pleased to announce $750,000 in funding for the construction of a new hotel in the Uashat mak Mani-Utenam community.
This funding is allocated as part of the Strategic Partnership Initiative (SPI) – True North Treasure Initiative, which is intended to encourage Aboriginal involvement in the development of Northern Quebec, particularly in major mining projects in the Labrador Trough. Construction of this new hotel will guarantee additional sustainable income for the Uashat mak Mani-Utenam community.
Construction of the hotel will be a tremendous boost to the local economy through the hiring of workers in the region. Once the hotel is open for business, it will employ more than 15 people.
