Government of Canada supports enhancement of St. Lawrence River

August 21, 2014 – Rivière-du-Loup, Quebec – Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)

Acting on behalf of the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, the Honourable Peter Van Loan, Leader of the Government in the House of Commons, today announced that Société Duvetnor Ltd has been granted financial assistance for the tourism development of Île aux Lièvres, an island in the middle of the St. Lawrence River near Rivière-du-Loup.

This support has been awarded in the form of a $316,326 repayable financial contribution through Canada Economic Development’s Quebec Economic Development Program.

Quick facts

Société Duvetnor is a non-profit organization dedicated to the enhancement of the St. Lawrence River whose mission is to ensure wildlife and habitat conservation in the St. Lawrence Estuary and to offer public awareness activities, among other things. Duvetnor also manages the tourism offering on several islands, including Île aux Lièvres.
This government assistance will be used to add three rooms and two cottages to the island’s tourist lodging supply. The organization will also be able to renovate existing reception facilities and common areas.
This project will help increase tourism traffic on the island and preserve 24 existing jobs.
