A Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) coastal vessel, her Majesty’s Canadian Ship (HMCS) Kingston, departs from Halifax, N.S., today for Canada’s arctic waters, where it will be joined later this month by HMCS Shawinigan. The joint efforts of HMC Ships Kingston and Shawinigan in Canada’s North once again mark the ongoing naval presence in the Canadian Arctic for RCN ships; sustaining a presence of 50 days north of the 60th parallel .
“This deployment is a part of the RCN’s efforts to provide, in partnership with other military and governmental partners, a reassuring presence to our northern communities, and to ensure that our Arctic waterways stay monitored and protected.”
