Enhancing Safety in Northwestern Ontario

August 13, 2014 - Fort Frances, Ontario - Transport Canada

The Honourable Lisa Raitt, Minister of Transport, today announced that the Government of Canada is investing $36,173 for the purchase of a runway condition reporting system at the Fort Frances Airport.

This system will provide timely, accurate and precise wireless reporting and recording of runway conditions.

Funding comes from Transport Canada's Airports Capital Assistance Program (ACAP).

Quick Facts

To date, through ACAP, the Fort Frances Airport has received over $3 million for 10 safety projects, including today's announcement.
Previous projects included the rehabilitation of Runway 12-30; the installation of a wildlife control fence; rehabilitation of airfield lighting; and the purchase of a snowplow truck with sand attachment and a runway sweeper.
Since the program started, the Government of Canada has invested more than $631 million for 776 projects at 174 airports across the country.
