August 1, 2014 – St. Andrews, Manitoba – Transport Canada
James Bezan, Member of Parliament for Selkirk—Interlake, on behalf of the Honourable Lisa Raitt, Minister of Transport, today announced that the Government of Canada is investing $1,902,398 for the rehabilitation of existing visual aids and the installation of new visual aids and associated electrical infrastructure at the St. Andrews Airport.
This work will ensure continued safe visibility and airport operation for flight crews, passengers, employees and medical evacuations.
Funding comes from Transport Canada’s Airports Capital Assistance Program (ACAP).
“The Rural Municipality of St. Andrews is very appreciative of the substantial financial support from the Federal Government. St. Andrews Airport is not only a great municipal asset, but also a huge economic benefit for our community. Since taking ownership, our goal was to own and operate a safe and viable airport, which we do, with the assistance of ACAP. By supporting the St. Andrews Airport, Manitoba's economy also benefits, and for this, we sincerely thank the Government of Canada.”
