August 20, 2014 - Montreal, Quebec - National Film Board of Canada
This October, the NFB will launch Little Big Girls, the latest hard-hitting documentary from seasoned director Hélène Choquette. Little Big Girls sheds light on the phenomenon of early-onset puberty, which is affecting girls at increasingly young ages. Drawing together accounts from experts and interviews with young girls and their family members, the filmmaker shows how the phenomenon is fast becoming a worldwide public health concern. While the causes may still be misunderstood, the physical, psychological and psychosocial repercussions on young girls going through this change so early are all too visible.
Multiple-award-winning documentary filmmaker Hélène Choquette casts an unflinching yet empathetic gaze on situations and people that would otherwise remain hidden from public view. Her works include Refugees of the Blue Planet (2006), Avenue Zero (2009) and Fists of Pride (2012).
Little Big Girls will be broadcast on specialty news channel RDI on October 9 at 8 p.m. as part of Les grands reportages, and will be available on DVD as well as in download and streaming formats in the NFB Digital Boutique as of October 17.
