Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued the following statement to mark the 67th anniversary of Pakistan’s independence:
“On behalf of all Canadians, I am pleased to extend my best wishes to all those celebrating the anniversary of Pakistan’s Independence.
“Canada and Pakistan pursue a range of interests in the context of bilateral relations. People-to-people links between Pakistan and Canada remain strong. Pakistan is among Canada’s top ten sources of immigrants, and the large Pakistani-Canadian community, which numbers over 155,000, continues to make significant contributions to the prosperity and vibrancy of our country.
“Once again, I offer my congratulations to all those celebrating Pakistan’s Independence Day.”
