Ottawa – His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, will visit the City of Québec on Friday, September 5, 2014, to take part in the celebrations marking the 150th anniversary of the Charlottetown and Quebec Conferences on Confederation.
At 2 p.m., His Excellency will deliver an address in the presence of Mr. Régis Lebeaume, Mayor of the City of Québec, Mr. Stu MacFadyen, Deputy Mayor of the City of Charlottetown, and other dignitaries, and will take part in the unveiling of a statue of Étienne–Paschal Taché and in the inauguration of a garden dedicated to the City of Charlottetown. The ceremony will take place in the Notre–Dame–de–la–Garde Park (305 Champlain Boulevard, City of Québec).
Étienne–Paschal Taché was one of the Fathers of Canadian Confederation. As premier, he defended this idea in the House. Unfortunately, he died on July 30, 1865, without ever knowing the outcome of the idea he defended so vigorously.
