Army Commander engaging counterparts at Conference of European Armies

Lieutenant-General Marquis Hainse, Commander of the Canadian Army, participated in the 22nd annual Conference of European Armies (CEA), in Wiesbaden, Germany from September 15 to 17.

The conference, which was aimed at fostering peace and stability throughout the world, provided a venue for sharing knowledge and training opportunities while strengthening relationships between participating armies. Canada has contributed to a number of military measures designed to demonstrate the strength of Allied solidarity in NATO States in Eastern and Central Europe.

The CEA is an annual U.S. Army Europe initiative and serves to build strong international relationships between representatives from over 40 countries.
Canada is committed to working with its NATO Allies to promote security and stability in Central and Eastern Europe, particularly in the context of Russia's ongoing aggression and provocation against Ukraine.
This year’s theme – “European Land Power: Globally Engaged and Responsive” – addressed how militaries will prepare for the intricacies of international coordination in times of crisis.
LGen Marquis Hainse focused on opportunities to address common security challenges with like-minded partners. During the conference, he engaged with the leadership of many European armies and discussed opportunities that advance the Canadian Army’s role in the world.
The CEA provided the Commander of the Canadian Army continued direct engagement with senior European military commanders. It advanced Canada’s role in the Euro-Atlantic partnership and facilitated the building of influence within NATO.
