OTTAWA—Her Excellency Sharon Johnston will attend the Canadian Psychiatric Association’s (CPA) 64th Annual Conference at The Westin Harbour Castle, in Toronto, on Thursday, September 11, 2014, at 4:30 p.m.
On this occasion, she will deliver an address and will accept the Special Recognition Award, which is being presented to His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, and Mrs. Johnston for their significant contributions in the area of mental health:
“It is with great honour that David and I will accept this award. During this mandate, we are adding our own voices to the national effort to reduce stigma and show that mental illness is a matter of health like any physical disease,” said Her Excellency. “We have witnessed the tremendous compassion and immense capacity Canadians have to be innovative and engaged in addressing mental health.”
The CPA’s Conference is the largest psychiatric continuing professional development program in Canada. Each year, more than 1 200 psychiatrists and other mental health care professionals attend the conference to keep up-to-date on the latest research, to exchange ideas, and to network with colleagues from across the country.
