September 7, 2014 - Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird today announced that the Canada-Mexico Partnership (CMP) annual meeting will take place in Calgary on September 8 and 9, 2014.
“I am delighted that we are marking a decade of Canada-Mexico cooperation through this unique bilateral arrangement,” said Baird. “The year 2014 is a particularly important one in Canada and Mexico’s relationship as it also marks the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between our two countries and the 20th anniversary of NAFTA.
“It is also fitting that CMP members are meeting this year in Calgary. This meeting is a timely opportunity to highlight the importance of energy to both our countries, following the landmark reforms in the energy sector recently passed by the Mexican Congress.”
The CMP continues to be a key mechanism for bilateral cooperation and complements Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s signing of the bilateral Joint Action Plan during his visit to Mexico last February. It serves as a catalyst for concrete action between the two governments, private sectors and other non-governmental partners in pursuing common goals.
The 2014 CMP will welcome some 150 participants, who will engage in discussions on various topics, including agri-business, energy, the environment, forestry, housing and urban development, human capital, labour mobility, as well as trade, investment and innovation.
