On September 16, 2014, Ryan Mitchell, an inmate at Donnacona Institution was found unresponsive in his cell.
Staff members began performing CPR and emergency services were called. The offender was taken to the Centre hospitalier de l’Université Laval where he was pronounced dead at 7:00 AM.
At the time of his death, Mr. Mitchell, 32 years old, had been serving a life sentence for Second Degree Murder and Assault Causing Bodily Harm since March 1, 2006.
The inmate’s next of kin have been notified of his death.
As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the police and the coroner have been notified, and Correctional Service Canada will review the circumstances of the incident.
