September 19, 2014 – New York City – Environment Canada
Minister Leona Aglukkaq will travel to New York City from September 20 to 23, 2014. The Minister will represent Canada at a number of climate change meetings.
While in New York, Minister Aglukkaq will attend the United Nations Secretary-General’s Climate Summit on Tuesday, September 23. Canada’s efforts to curb climate change extend beyond the United Nations Framework. To this end, Minister Aglukkaq will also participate in the High Level Assembly for the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC). Canada is a founding member and plays a leadership role within the Coalition, which aims to advance efforts to reduce short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs) in ways that protect the environment and public health, promote food and energy security, and address near-term climate change.
Through the course of the meetings, Minister Aglukkaq will highlight the domestic and international actions that Canada is taking to address climate change. The Government of Canada’s actions are achieving results while keeping the Canadian economy strong. The government is doing this through a sector-by-sector regulatory approach to reduce Canada’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, record investments in green energy, and taking a leadership role in international climate change efforts.
