Minister Tony Clement, President of the Treasury Board, concluded a four-day visit to New Delhi and Mumbai where he met with members of the newly elected Government of India, as well as key business leaders to discuss trade and investment opportunities between the two countries, as well as public sector and fiscal management best practices.
While in New Delhi, Minister Clement and the Honourable Dr. Jitendra Singh, India’s Minister of State for Personnel and Public Grievances and Pensions, agreed to work towards sharing information on public governance and public administration between both countries. Minister Clement also spoke at the Indian Institute of Public Administration and shared Canada’s experiences and lessons learned in regards to public sector reforms.
During his time in Mumbai, Minister Clement held roundtable discussions with business leaders to discuss the issues surrounding investment and trade opportunities within Canada and India. He also met with India’s Minister of Mines, Nerendra Singh Tomar, to discuss economic development in the natural resources sector. Finally, Minister Clement spoke to the Tata Institute of Social Sciences on the role of the public service in a democracy.
