Government of Canada invests in a major public art project in Québec City

The history of Québec City’s role within a united Canada will be presented in a bold new way, thanks to funding from the Government of Canada. On behalf of the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, today announced the Government of Canada is contributing $500,000 to the Ville de Québec through Canadian Heritage’s Celebration and Commemoration Program.
The initiative will invite Canadian artists from across the country to participate in a competition to create a new piece of public art that will highlight the important role the Québec Conference had on the creation of Canada.
“Anniversaries bring Canadians together, strengthen our communities, and allow us to take pride in the citizenship we all share. On the road to the 150th anniversary of Confederation in 2017, this investment will allow Canadians to learn more about the Québec Conference and the integral role it played in establishing our confederation and our country.”
