On September 12, 2014, Joseph Dwayne Fox, 33, of North Dakota, pleaded guilty in Winnipeg Provincial Court to wilfully attempting to evade compliance of the Customs Act by failing to present himself to an officer upon arrival to Canada. He was sentenced to 60 days in jail.
On September 10, at the Lena border crossing in southwest Manitoba, CBSA officers found Fox hiding under a blanket in the rear of a vehicle, attempting to avoid examination. He was arrested and turned over to the CBSA Criminal Investigations Section, which subsequently laid charges. Fox had been denied entry into Canada the previous day due to his criminal record.
