Open Farm Day an Opportunity for Families to Experience Agriculture in Newfoundland and Labrador

September 16, 2014 – St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador – Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada

Thousands of people are expected at farms across Newfoundland and Labrador for Open Farm Day 2014 on September 21, as farmers open their doors to the public.

At this year's 17 participating farms, families will be able to get close to farm animals, watch cows being milked, pick corn and other vegetables and take wagon rides through fields.

Open Farm Day in Newfoundland and Labrador is funded by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, Provincial Department of Natural Resources and Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Agriculture.
The agriculture industry provides approximately 6,500 jobs in Newfoundland and Labrador and has primary and value-added production worth approximately $500 million.
The federal-provincial Growing Forward 2 agreement in Newfoundland and Labrador provides $37 million in federal and provincial funding over five years to assist farmers, processors and exporters in their goal to be innovative, competitive, sustainable and profitable.
