The Honourable Rob Nicholson, Minister of National Defence, attended a special ceremony for Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI) held today at the National War Memorial in downtown Ottawa.
After exercising the Freedom of the City of Ottawa, Lieutenant-Colonel John Errington of PPCLI led the Regiment north to the National War Memorial for a Rededication Ceremony. The Regiment was formed in 1914 for the Great War and after a century of service, PPCLI rededicated itself to 100 more years of service to Canadians.
The Rededication Ceremony was also attended by Lieutenant-General Guy Thibault, Vice Chief of Defence Staff,The Right Honorable Adrienne Clarkson, Colonel-in-Chief to PPCLI and Lieutenant-General (Ret’d) Ray Crabbe, Colonel of the Regiment.
“Today we celebrate a century of service by Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry: one hundred years of discipline, hard work, and training; one hundred years of duty, loyalty, integrity, and courage; one hundred years of service to our country. This rededication initiates the next one hundred years of service while we remember the successes and the sacrifices of the last 100 years, and celebrate the Regiment’s continued commitment to Canada.”
