September 3, 2014 – Qikiqtarjuaq, Nunavut – Infrastructure Canada
Today residents of Qikiqtarjuaq gathered to celebrate the official opening of the Qikiqtarjuaq hamlet office complex.
The new hamlet office complex replaces the former hamlet building and provides additional space for community members to attend council meetings, as well as office and meeting space for hamlet staff. An adjoining hall offers social and recreational space for community events. The hall includes a kitchen and a sound booth for the community radio station.
"Our Government took action for the people of Nunavut by investing in a new office complex that will serve as a community hub for the delivery of government services and a social gathering place for the residents of Qikiqtarjuaq for years to come. Initiatives, like this one, are vital to our public infrastructure and to the safety and well-being of our communities."
- The Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of the Environment, Minister of the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency, Minister for the Arctic Council, Regional Minister for the North and Member of Parliament for Nunavut
"The Government of Nunavut is proud to partner with the federal government on infrastructure projects like these, which help to build stronger communities across Nunavut. We are pleased to be able to provide Qikiqtarjuaqmiut a new hamlet office where they can access a range of municipal and government services, and a new hall that the whole community will be able to enjoy."
