Ottawa – His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada, will mark the 75th anniversary of Canada’s engagement in the Second World War and pay tribute to veterans during a special ceremony to be held at the Canadian Aviation and Space Museum, in Ottawa, on Wednesday, September 10, 2014, at 3 p.m.
His Excellency will deliver remarks on this occasion and present veterans with a commemorative lapel pin. The veterans will also receive a personalized certificate of recognition. Four similar ceremonies will take place simultaneously in cities across Canada (Halifax, Québec, Edmonton and Vancouver.)
During the World Wars Commemoration period (from 2014-2020), the Government of Canada will mark significant centennial First World War and 75th anniversary Second World War milestones. Events will pay homage to the many Canadians and Newfoundlanders who served during WWI and WWII, and will recognize the profound impact these historical events continue to have on the Canada we live in today.
