The National Battlefields Commission invites the public to participate in a special commemorative activity: The World War Years. This guided tour will be held on September 14 and 21 at 2 p.m. to mark two historical milestones: the outbreak of the First World War (1914–1918), and the 75th anniversary of the start of the Second World War in (1939–1945).

- Your hostess, Louisette, a worker at the Arsenal (a now-disappeared cartridge factory), will show you around the posh lodgings built by former Prime Minister Louis S. St. Laurent on Grande Allée. She’ll also give you a taste of the St-Laurent family’s daily life, let you in on family secrets, and get you up to speed on the Plains military role in the first half of the 20th century.
- Louis S. St. Laurent Heritage House bears witness in brick and stone to the years before the Great War and will serve as your point of departure. The tour takes about an hour and a half, making stops on the Plains of Abraham at locations where notable military buildings once stood, including soldiers’ huts, and Camp L, the slum quarter, the Discovery Pavilion (formerly HMCS Montcalm), the Ross Rifle Factory, the Arsenal
- Find out how the Plains of Abraham contributed to the war effort during the First and Second World Wars, and how the wars affected daily life in the city.
