Galaxie–Tableaux vivants, an initiative of the Centre d’accueil et d’accompagnement francophone des immigrants du sud-est du Nouveau-Brunswick (CAFI), brings Acadian women and newly arrived immigrant women and gives them the opportunity to participate in new and enlightening cultural experiences.
On behalf of the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, Robert Goguen, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Justice and Member of Parliament (Moncton–Riverview–Dieppe), today announced that CAFI would receive $30,188 in funding for this initiatilve.
The Galaxie–Tableaux vivants initiative is a series of multidisciplinary workshops and shows involving about 20 immigrant and Acadian women. Participants will work with five artists in the disciplines of mime, theatre, dance, music and visual art. They will create tableaux vivants based on their own life experiences and on the relationships and resemblances between the values and customs of their countries of origin and their country of settlement.
“Our Government recognizes the role played by our two official languages in the economic and cultural growth of our communities. CAFI’s project will enable Acadian and immigrant women to communicate and collaborate in their common language—French.”
—The Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages
“The Galaxie–Tableaux vivants project will help newly arrived immigrant women become better integrated into the Greater Moncton area Francophone community, while sharing unique cultural experiences with local artists.”
—Robert Goguen, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Justice and Member of Parliament (Moncton–Riverview–Dieppe)
“We are very grateful to Canadian Heritage for its contribution, which will enable us to take Galaxie–Tableaux vivants to the next level in terms of the quality of the workshops for the women and also the materials and support available for carrying out their artistic projects. Clearly, this will bring wider exposure for Galaxie’s activities.”
