Canada's Chief of the Defence Staff Hosts Meeting with his Finnish Counterpart

Introduction

The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), General Tom Lawson, hosted his counterpart, the Commander of the Finnish Defence Force, General Jarmo Lindberg, for high-level discussions today on military and security issues.

Quick Facts

General Lindberg was appointed Commander of the Finnish Defence Force in March 2014 and this meeting represents his first visit to Canada since being appointed.
General Lawson and General Lindberg met briefly earlier this year at the NATO summit.
Discussion topics at the meeting included:
- NATO partnerships
- The current situation in Ukraine
- Arctic cooperation
- Opportunities for Finnish participation in Canadian exercises
