On October 5, 2014, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) seized close to 6 kg of suspected cocaine in the suitcases of two travellers at the Montréal Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport. The suspected drugs were concealed in false-bottomed suitcases, but the border services officers defeated the scheme through their excellent intuition and using detection equipment such as X-ray scanners.
The drugs and the two travellers from Jamaica were handed over to the RCMP, which is continuing the investigation.
Facts in brief
- From January 1 to December 31, 2013, the CBSA made 198 drug seizures at the Montréal-Trudeau Airport, 2,053 seizures in Quebec and 9,431 seizures in Canada.
