The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), General Tom Lawson, visited today with Canadian Armed Forces members and National Defence employees at 2nd Canadian Division in Quebec.
During his visit, General Lawson met with elements of Task Force 1-15, currently in training to reach high readiness capability by summer 2015, and with the command teams of 2nd Canadian Division at Canadian Forces Base Valcartier.
General Lawson also had the pleasure of participating in a ceremony at the Citadelle of Québec, where His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnson, the Governor General and Commander in Chief of Canada, presented Canadian honours including Meritorious Service Decorations to members of the Canadian Armed Forces.
“I was pleased to have the opportunity to speak with the command team and members of 2nd Canadian Division, who are training within the high readiness cycle. These men and women are playing an essential role by enabling the Canadian Army to remain at the ready to protect Canada and Canadians. It was also a pleasure for me to join His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, and pay tribute to several members of the Canadian Armed Forces for the excellent work they are doing on behalf of their country.”
General Tom Lawson, Chief of the Defence Staff
“I am very pleased that General Lawson, Chief of the Defence Staff, took the time to visit the members of 2nd Canadian Division and interact with them. Our soldiers are very well trained men and women and they are equipped not only to assist the civilian authorities when disaster strikes in Quebec or in Canada, but also to act in the context of any expeditionary deployment that the Canadian government may entrust to us. We are an integral part of the community and are proud to be working for our fellow citizens. Having our Chief of the Defence Staff among us today is an honour.”
