October 17, 2014 – Longueuil, Quebec – Transport Canada
Philippe Couillard, Premier of Quebec, Robert Poëti, Quebec Minister of Transport and Minister responsible for the Montréal Region, and Claude Carignan, Leader of the Government in the Senate, today inaugurated a segment of Highway 35 between Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu and Highway 133 in Saint-Sébastien. Also present for the occasion were Peter Shumlin, Governor of Vermont, and Pierre Paradis, Quebec Minister of Municipal Affairs and Land Occupancy and Minister responsible for the Montérégie region.
To date, about $200 million has been invested in the Highway 35 extension. This project is funded through an agreement between the Government of Canada and the Government of Quebec.
Road users who want to go to the United States will now be able to take Highway 35 from Highway 10 in Carignan to Saint-Sébastien, a distance of 42 km. They can then take Highway 133 for 17 km to the American border at the Saint-Armand border crossing, which leads to Interstate 89.
