On October 3, 2014, Lionel Gauthier, an inmate at the Federal Training Centre, was pronounced dead at a hospital in Sainte-Agathe.
At the time of his death, Mr. Gauthier, 72 years old, had been serving a sentence of 9 years since May 28, 2009 for Possession for purpose of traffic, Trafficking, and Commission of offence for the benefit of a criminal organisation.
The inmate’s next of kin have been notified of his death.
As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the police and the coroner have been notified, and the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances of the incident.
