Water Reservoir Expansion Project to benefit from New Building Canada Plan's Small Communities Fund
October 31, 2014 – East St. Paul, Manitoba – Infrastructure Canada
Today, the governments of Canada and Manitoba announced that the Water Reservoir Expansion Project in the Rural Municipality of East St. Paul will benefit from the New Building Canada Plan's Small Communities Fund.
The Small Communities Fund is part of the $10-billion Provincial-Territorial Infrastructure Component of the New Building Canada Fund. It will provide $1 billion for projects in municipalities with fewer than 100,000 residents to build projects that deliver on local needs.
With this funding, the Rural Municipality of East St. Paul will expand its water reservoir and be able to treat a new raw water source. When completed, this project will help this small Manitoba community increase its water system reliability and nearly double its capacity to better meet the needs of residents today and well into the future.
The project announced today is among a number of projects announced recently in the province that will benefit from funding from the governments of Canada and Manitoba under the Small Communities Fund. With the five projects that were announced in the Interlake Region of Manitoba on October 16, the governments of Canada and Manitoba have jointly invested over $5 million into 6 projects under this fund to date.
