October 20, 2014 – La Pêche, Quebec – Transport Canada
Mr. Jacques Gourde, Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister, for Official Languages and for the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, Mr. Robert Poëti, Quebec Minister of Transport and Minister responsible for the Montréal region, and Ms. Stéphanie Vallée, Quebec Minister of Justice and Minister responsible for the Outaouais region, today officially inaugurated section 2 of Highway 5 in the municipalities of Chelsea and La Pêche, in the Outaouais region.
This second section of the project to extend Highway 5, totalling 6.5 km in length, includes an overpass (Carman Road), four bridges (two on Highway 5 over the Meech Creek and two over the La Pêche River), and two interchanges (Cross Loop Road and route 366/Valley Road). It connects to the section of the highway that bypasses the Wakefield sector in the municipality of La Pêche.
The cost of completing this second section is 125 million dollars and is funded equally by the governments of Canada and Quebec under the Agreement between the Government of Quebec and the National Capital Commission to improve the road system in the Quebec portion of the National Capital Region.
A first 2.5-kilometre section of the extension of Highway 5 (to Meech Creek) was inaugurated in 2009 and that section 3, 1-km in length, is being prepared.
