HAMILTON, Ont. — The military funeral of Corporal Nathan Cirillo will take place on Tuesday, October 28, 2014, at Christ’s Church Cathedral in Hamilton.
Corporal Nathan Cirillo died on October 22, 2014, after being shot while on sentry duty at the National War Memorial in Ottawa, Ont. Corporal Cirillo was a member of The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders of Canada (Princess Louise’s) based in Hamilton, Ontario.
Fellow citizens who would like to honour Corporal Cirillo are welcome to do so on October 28, 2014, along the funeral procession route which will begin at The Argyll Commemorative Pavilion at Bayfront Park in Hamilton. The procession is scheduled to begin at Bayfront Park at 11:00 a.m. Military units, and uniformed service members may form up at Bayfront Park and follow the procession. The funeral procession will head south along Bay Street North, then east along York Boulevard and then north along James Street North concluding at Christ’s Church Cathedral. Military units, uniformed service members and members of the public who wish to view the funeral service may do so via video at First Ontario Centre located at 101 York Boulevard. The First Ontario Centre will open to the public beginning at 10:00 a.m.
As per the wishes of the family, public attendance at Christ’s Church Cathedral will be restricted to invited guests only. Following the service military units and uniformed service members are asked to form up on the south side of York Boulevard to pay final respects as the procession passes on route to a private interment.

Media who wish to gain access to this event are required to be accredited. Once your accreditation request has been confirmed, please report to the Media Centre at HMCS Star, 650 Catharine St. N., no later than 10:30 a.m. The Media Centre will be open at 6:30 a.m. on the day of the funeral to obtain your media pass. There is room for one (1) video camera and one (1) still camera inside the church. The pooling of media feeds are encouraged by all media as space inside the church is strictly limited. There is very limited space in front of the church for media personnel. Arrangements have been made to provide a public feed of the funeral service at First Ontario Centre (101 York Boulevard) where members of the community may gather to honour Corporal Cirillo.
