The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) is pleased to share a sample of its third quarter highlights (July – September) from its various operations in Winnipeg, including airport, commercial and inland operations. This sampling underscores the CBSA’s commitment to keeping communities safe and ensuring our laws are respected.
On July 16, officers at Winnipeg Commercial Operations seized seven baggies of khat totaling 585 grams from a U.S. shipment declared as a t-shirt, destined to Calgary. On July 22, officers also seized 387 grams of suspected hashish oil that was being shipped from a California address. On September 4, 500 pills of suspected oxycodone and acetaminophen were seized inside a shipment declared as cross-stitch pillows from Hong Kong.
From July to September, Winnipeg Commercial Operations also made 17 weapon and firearm seizures including brass knuckles, throwing stars, butterfly knives, push daggers and a taser.
On August 3, a 55-year-old man was denied entry when background checks revealed he had a conviction for manslaughter. He returned to the U.S. on the next available flight.
On August 24, officers denied entry to a 33-year-old man for being a non-genuine visitor. He told officers he was coming to visit Winnipeg however the officers’ examination revealed evidence he was actually coming to work in Canada illegally. The man returned to the U.S. on the next available flight.
On September 26, a U.S. man was refused a work permit and denied entry for past convictions of serious criminality including possession of a dangerous weapon and driving under the influence. The man was booked on the next available flight back to the U.S.

- There were 60,174 travellers and 1,364 flights; and 92,404 commercial shipments for Winnipeg.
- Officers completed 97 permanent resident landings, and issued 339 work permits and 193 study permits.
- Officers refused entry to 30 foreign nationals for criminality or other reasons.
- Officers seized 972 grams and 900 doses of drugs in four incidents.
