Transfer of a portion of the federal Gas Tax Fund revenues and the Government of Quebec's contribution

The Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, the Honourable Denis Lebel, and the Quebec Minister for Transport and the Implementation of the Maritime Strategy, Minister responsible for the Bas-Saint-Laurent and Gaspésie—Îles-de-la-Madeleine regions, and Member of the National Assembly for Rivière-du-Loup—Témiscouata, Jean D'Amour, on behalf of Quebec's Minister of Municipal Affairs and Land Occupancy, Pierre Moreau, are pleased to announce that 97 municipalities in the lower Saint-Lawrence will receive $86,406,695 over the next five years under the new federal-provincial Gas Tax Fund agreement for the completion of priority infrastructure projects.
Under the federal Gas Tax Fund, including the Government of Quebec's contribution, financial support for municipal infrastructure in Quebec will amount to $2.67 billion over the next five years.
The federal Gas Tax Fund provides long-term, stable and predictable funding to help Canadian municipalities build and revitalize their local infrastructure while creating jobs and promoting long-term prosperity. The funding has been extended and the amount allocated has doubled, increasing from $1 billion to $2 billion per year. It has also been indexed at 2% per year and legislated as a permanent source of federal infrastructure funding for municipalities.
