For immediate release
GATINEAU, Quebec, October 31, 2014 – Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) wishes to inform motorists that the configuration of traffic lanes on the Macdonald Cartier Bridge will be modified until November 28, 2014.
The following lane reductions will take place for rehabilitation work:
- Monday to Friday, from 6 to 9:30 a.m. (morning peak hours)—three Ottawa bound lanes and two Gatineau-bound lanes will be open.
- Monday to Friday, from 3 to 7 p.m. (afternoon peak hours)—two Ottawa bound lanes and three Gatineau-bound lanes will be open.
- During off-peak hours in the morning and afternoon, two lanes will be open in each direction.
- For specific construction work, more restrictive lane closures will be required between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m., where one lane will be open in each direction.
Depending on weather conditions and other factors, the following lane configurations will take place over the next five weekends for paving activities:
- From Friday, 8 p.m. until Monday, 5 a.m., one Ottawa bound lane and two Gatineau bound lanes will be open.
- During this period, the Fournier and Maisonneuve ramps towards Ottawa will be closed. The public will be redirected to the Saint-Raymond / Autoroute 5 interchange to access Autoroute 5 South in order to use the Macdonald-Cartier Bridge.
The Gatineau-bound sidewalk will be open to pedestrians and cyclists throughout this period.
PWGSC encourages users to exercise caution when travelling in the construction zone and thanks them for their patience.
Please note this schedule may change due to weather conditions or other factors beyond our control.
