Ontario manufacturing sector workers to benefit from export contract
October 27, 2014 - Ottawa, Ontario - Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada
The Honourable Ed Fast, Minister of International Trade, today welcomed the recent announcement of a Peruvian navy contract to acquire and upgrade five multi-mission Seasprite helicopters. General Dynamics Canada, at its facility in Ottawa, Ontario, will upgrade the helicopters with an integrated mission system to enhance the navy’s operational capability for surveillance and search and rescue operations.
The contract was facilitated by the Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC), the Government of Canada’s international government-to-government contracting organization, and was awarded as a result of the May 2013 Memorandum of Understanding between the Peruvian and Canadian governments. It will sustain 30 Canadian jobs in Ontario.
Last August, Minister Fast led a trade mission to Peru, a priority market under Canada’s Global Markets Action Plan.
“Canada’s pro-trade, pro-export plan delivers another export win. Our government will continue to support our exporters and manufacturers in creating jobs and opportunities in every region of the country.”
