The Honourable Bernard Valcourt, Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development, delivered the following statement today:
"On behalf of the Government of Canada, I would like to offer congratulations to the recipients of the 2015 Indspire Awards, who are recognized for their exceptional contributions in the fields of health, law, business, politics, culture, and the arts, among other disciplines. Their accomplishments serve as an inspiration to Canadians and especially to young people. Their success is a shining example of what can be achieved with vision and perseverance in working toward academic, career, and community goals.
The awards, known as the National Aboriginal Achievement Awards until 2013, are a celebration of excellence within the Aboriginal community and highlight the achievements of Aboriginal people. These awards demonstrate the ability and potential of Aboriginal people across Canada who are strong role models for their own communities as well as all Canadians.
The Government of Canada is a proud partner of Indspire, including their activities in support of student achievement, like the Building Brighter Futures scholarships and bursaries program to which the Government of Canada invested $10 million in Economic Action Plan 2013.
