GATINEAU, Quebec, October 31, 2014 – Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) wishes to advise the public that it will begin to respectfully remove flowers and mementos at the National War Memorial on Sunday, November 2, 2014.
PWGSC and the National Capital Commission will remove flowers and mementos at approximately 10 a.m. on Sunday, November 2, 2014. All salvageable mementos will be turned over to the Ceremonial Guard so they can follow protocol in preparing the items for delivery to the families of the fallen soldiers.
The flowers that are still in good condition will be donated to the Perley and Rideau Veterans’ Health Centre and other veterans’ homes.
The removal is a necessary step to begin preparing the site for the November 11, 2014, annual Remembrance Day Ceremony.
