Films in The Royal 22e Régiment: A Glorious Centennial box set
The Van Doos: 100 Years with the Royal 22e Régiment by Claude Guilmain was produced by Anne-Marie Rocher and Maryse Chapdelaine at the NFB’s Canadian Francophonie Studio with executive producers Jacques Turgeon and Dominic Desjardins, in collaboration with Radio-Canada. The feature-length film traces the French-speaking regiment’s history with humanity and emotion, from its creation at the beginning of World War I to its exploits during World War II, the Korean War and its deployment in Afghanistan.
The commemorative box set also includes two other films about the Canadian Armed Forces directed by Guilmain and produced by the NFB: The Van Doos in Afghanistan (2011) and Front Lines (2008), inspired by letters written by soldiers who fought during World War I. Bonus items: an animated short by Claude Cloutier―The Trenches (NFB, 2010)―and an assortment of documentary vignettes from Front Lines.
