Prime Minister Stephen Harper today announced the recipients of the Prime Minister’s Awards for Teaching Excellence and for Excellence in Early Childhood Education.
This year’s awards were presented to 54 teachers from across Canada. Of these, 17 national-level winners received their awards from the Prime Minister at a special event today in Ottawa.
The Prime Minister’s Awards for Teaching Excellence recognize outstanding elementary and secondary school teachers in all disciplines who, through the innovative use of information and communications technologies, help Canadian students to meet the challenges of a 21st century society and economy.
The Prime Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Early Childhood Education honour exceptional early childhood educators. A total of ten teachers and seven early childhood educators (including a team of three) received a Certificate of Excellence (a national-level award). Twenty-five teachers and 12 early childhood educators (including two teams of two) received a Certificate of Achievement (a regional-level award). Of these, four teachers and one early childhood educator received designated awards for outstanding Aboriginal educators (two national and three regional-level awards).
