General Tom Lawson, Chief of the Defence Staff issued today the following statement:
“Just as we remain steadfast in our commitment to defending Canadians and Canadian interests, we remain undeterred in paying tribute to this nation's fallen, including Corporal Nathan Cirillo and Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent. Today, in their honour, and in honour of those who have so bravely served before them, I gave the order for members of the Canadian Armed Forces to continue to stand-to at their posts as part of the National Sentry Program.
“With the mounting of sentries at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the Sentry Program reinforces Canada’s commitment to remember and honour Canadians who served in both World Wars, as well as those who have contributed to Canada’s long standing tradition of military excellence through to the present day.
“Your Canadian Armed Forces members vigilantly carry out this duty in the name of all those who have fallen; on behalf of Canada and Canadians, we will stand our guard.”
