These projects were made possible by the federal Gas tax Fund
October 16, 2014 – Trois-Rivières, Quebec – Infrastructure Canada
Government representatives joined Trois-Rivières residents today to celebrate the completion of the new Des Chenaux and Vachon water reservoirs.
Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister, for Official Languages and for the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, Jacques Gourde, on behalf of the Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, the Honourable Denis Lebel, and Deputy for Champlain, and Chair of the Committee on Planning and the Public Domain, Pierre Michel Auger, on behalf of Quebec's Minister of Municipal Affairs and Land Occupancy, Pierre Moreau, are very pleased that government financial support was invested in such an important project, which will ensure access to safe drinking water for Trois-Rivières citizens for many years to come.
The new reservoirs allow the City to better respond to citizens needs for drinking water, as well as protect the drinking water supply for the Cap-de-la-Madeleine area.
From 2010 to 2014, the City of Trois-Rivières has benefited from $30,913,872 from the federal Gas Tax Fund and Quebec's contribution, with the Government of Canada providing $21,868,870, and the Government of Quebec providing $9,045,002. Part of this funding went towards completing the reservoirs.
The federal Gas Tax Fund provides long-term, stable and predictable funding to help Canadian municipalities build and revitalize their local infrastructure while creating jobs and promoting long-term prosperity. The funding has been extended and the amount allocated has doubled, increasing from $1 billion to $2 billion per year.
