November 27, 2014 - Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird today announced that he will visit Iceland to discuss trade and issues of mutual concern with representatives in this key Arctic neighbour.
In Reykjavík, Iceland, Baird will meet with Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson, Iceland's Prime Minister, and Gunnar Bragi Sveinsson, Minister for Foreign Affairs, to discuss bilateral issues, with a focus on international security, the Arctic and expanding economic relations between the two countries.
"This visit strengthens Canada and Iceland's bilateral relations, building on the momentum of a recent visit to Canada by the Icelandic foreign minister," said Baird.
"Our relationship has been supported by our common action as allies in combatting Russian aggression and by the entry into force of our countries' open skies agreement. We are both founding allies in NATO, and we are fellow members of the Arctic Council and partners in free trade."
