On November 7, 2014, Tommy Gagné an inmate at La Macaza Institution was found unresponsive in his cell.
Staff members immediately began performing CPR and emergency services were called. The offender was taken to the Centre de santé et de services sociaux d’Antoine-Labelle and then to the Sacré-Cœur Hospital in Montreal where he died on November 11, 2014 at 12:45 a.m.
At the time of his death, Mr. Gagné, 27 years old, had been serving an indeterminate sentence since September 5, 2007 for second Degree Murder, Forcible Confinement and Robbery.
The inmate’s next of kin have been notified of his death.
As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the police and the coroner have been notified, and Correctional Service Canada will review the circumstances of the incident.
