November 15, 2014 Moncton, NB Department of Justice Canada
Today, the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, announced renewed funding to the Centre de traduction et terminologie juridiques de l'Université de Moncton under the Access to Justice in Both Official Languages Support Fund. He made the announcement at an event at the university accompanied by Robert Goguen, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Justice and Attorney General, and MP for Moncton-Dieppe-Riverview.
The Centre will use the funding to continue to develop a series of legal and linguistic tools, including the production of lexicographical material and the standardization of French common law terminology, as well as the development of linguistic tools for legal professionals, so they can serve their clients more effectively in both official languages.
[Translation] Since its beginnings, the Centre de traduction et de terminologie juridiques of the Université de Moncton has accomplished a greal deal in developing the language of common law, and ultimately access to justice, in French. It has worked continually to standardize French common law terminology and has dedicated itself to creating practical jurilinguistic tools that are indispensable to teaching and practising common law in French.
The financial support we have received from the Department of Justice this year will allow us to continue to build on our accomplishments and to create specialized reference, education and terminological solutions for the good of all Canadians who deal with our justice system.
