Cape Breton’s busiest port is charting a course for enhanced marine operations in the Strait of Canso region, thanks to support from the Government of Canada.
The Government of Canada, through ACOA’s Business Development Program, is contributing $33,375 for the Strait of Canso Superport Corporation to carry out marketing activities to promote its facilities and increase cargo and vessel traffic in the Strait of Canso.

- Formed in 1997, the Strait of Canso Superport is a non-profit organization that owns and operates the Port Hawkesbury Pier and the Mulgrave Marine Terminal - two year-round marine facilities located along the Strait of Canso.
- The Strait of Canso is one of the best deep-water, ice-free ports on the east coast of North America.
- On average, Superport handles over 20 million tonnes of bulk shipments per year.
- In2011, the Strait of Canso Superport accommodated the production field centre for the Deep Panuke Project - Encana’s natural gas field off the Nova Scotia coast - which created hundreds of jobs in the local economy.
