Highway 1 and Mountain Highway Interchange to Benefit from Government Partnership

Federal and provincial funding to help ease highway and local traffic congestion

November 12, 2014 – North Vancouver, British Columbia – Infrastructure Canada

Today, Andrew Saxton, Member of Parliament for North Vancouver, and Naomi Yamamoto, Minister of State for Tourism and Small Business for British Columbia and MLA for North Vancouver—Lonsdale, on behalf of Todd Stone, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure for British Columbia, announced that funding is being set aside to build a new interchange where Highway 1 intersects with Mountain Highway in the District of North Vancouver.

The project involves converting the existing Mountain Highway Overpass at Highway 1 into a full interchange. This new interchange will increase safety by helping to reduce congestion and travel times on this busy stretch of roadway, and will provide an alternative to the east-west and north-south routes on the North Shore, thereby providing additional capacity for travelers in these Vancouver communities.

Quick facts

The Government of Canada is setting aside up to $12.5 million for this project through the Building Canada Fund–Major Infrastructure Component. This funding is conditional on the project meeting applicable federal eligibility requirements of the Building Canada Fund and the signing of a contribution agreement.
The Province of British Columbia is providing up to $23.5 million for this project.
The total project cost is $36 million.
